Dr Taylor was clinically trained at the Royal Free Hospital, London and qualified with a medical degree,  MBBS in 1979.

He  then spent six months as a Casualty Officer before training as a psychiatrist for a further three years on the Royal Free Hospital Psychiatric Rotation which included placements at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, the Whittington Hospital, Highgate, Friern Hospital, Friern Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield.

After passing his MRCPsych (Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatry) in June 1984  he trained for a further three years on the Cambridge Senior Registrar Rotation at Addenbrookes and Fulbourne Hospital  in Cambridge, St. Clements Hospital, Ipswich and St Audry's Hospital in Woodbridge. 

In November 1988 he was appointed Consultant Psychiatrist at Whitehaven Hospital in Cumbria, where he took over from Dr. Jerrold Burgess, who had recently retired. In 1998 he began working as a locum Consultant in Milton Keynes and in 2000 was appointed to a substantive post. He retired from the NHS in April 2014 after 35 years service, 25 of those as a Consultant Psychiatrist.

Dr. Taylor has worked in the Private Sector for many years both in Cumbria and Milton Keynes and has an established reputation. He receives referrals from General Practitioners not only from Milton Keynes but from many of the outlying Towns and Villages and beyond.
